After clock watching in the office all Friday day time, we finally arrive in Birmingham with time to get a drink before we wonder over to the outside stage to see Drum Eyes. Its suddenly Supersonic time again! Avant Rock, records and cake is high on the agenda, and DJ Scotch Egg on bass and his pals are a wonderful dancy start to the festival. Combining beats and more traditional rock instrumentation, you could tell this opening band would lead to great things for the rest of the weekend.
Friday People

After catching most of Drum Eyes set, I wondered a few yards to the indoor Factory Club to be confronted with the carnival noise doom of Atomised. A bloke in a black tutu, PVC hat and his cohort raped and twisted 80's pop songs into some thing quite scary. 1 part circus, 2 parts filth and 10 nods to the past, I was equally amused and quite profoundly disturbed. Funny, violating stuff indeed. After resisting the need to wash my eyes and ears of Atomised specter, I head outside again to watch PCM.

Supersonic Atomized

Supersonic wouldn't be Supersonic without a set from Neil Harvey and Nik Wells. Their wonderfully dark D & B always puts me in the right frame of mind, and their usage of LOW sub bass always makes me smile. They always provide relief when I'm getting sick of guitars. Luckily, that wasn't likely to be happening any time soon as up next were Nottingham's very own Army of Flying Robots.

It was heartening to see a great throng crowded into the Factory Club for the fast lads penultimate gig before they split up. Fast, fast and more fast, this reviewer nearly died in the pit. Worth every second and lots and lots of satisfied crowd members. It made me a little sad, since moving to the East Midlands, this band were always there at gigs, putting on gigs (which they still do). Great times. Their last gig is in Nottingham on 7th August at Chameleon. Watch, support, show this band that you care. They will be greatly missed.

After getting some much needed fresh air, me and a friend head to get a coffee before watching the now legendary Sunn O))). Dry ice, check. Model T amp mountain, check. All the spectacle was in place before a be-robed Greg Anderson and Stephen O' Malley wondered onto the stage. Playing material exclusively from the GrimmRobe Demos, I didn't so much hear them as feel them. Stripped down, slow doom but still FUCKING loud, I left very satisfied that Sunn O))) can still provide the grim doom ridden goods when needed. With the want for more loud, it was time for welsh sludge boys Taint. I was a little tired to catch all of their set, but they had enough of the heavy riff to keep me smiling.

Grimm Tape

Finally, the end of the night, and Venetian Snares to close. Yes gentlemen, yes! The bass was actually ridiculous and Mr Snare's glitchy goodness made a good change of pace. Friday night dance fest. Woohoo!

With that over, I try to think of ways of "liberating" those Model T's from the backstage area before going to watch a Metallica documentary. It made ALL of them look like pricks. (FUCK...FUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCK!) It was time to sleep on a wonderfully comfortable practice room floor to be woken up by a band recording at 8am. What band records at 8am?! Shite ones, it would appear.
