Hehe, on the CD it says 'PROMO ONLY. Dont be a douche and sell or burn it, in fact dont put it in your computer at
all. Play it on a real stereo because you deserve the best!' See why I love Southern Lord at times? Do you? No
probably not, but it makes sense, though I'm guessing this will leak anyway, like all the rest. Whatever, it wasn't
me so don't go blaming me. Right? Anyway, that's something to think about isn't it? But maybe not for this review (if
you can call it that, I'm sure these writings are getting worse and worse as I get older and older), this is supposed
to be about the monolithic new Pelican album, though I'm sure I could ramble on for ages to fill up the page and not
actually write much at all about the aformentioned monolithic Pelican like I appear to be doing rather well right now
don't you think?
Their first album for Southern Lord too, the home of all that is doom and dark and outragously heavy (on limited
edition multi coloured vinyl probably too). Previously last seen on Hydra Head doing their thing, I have to admit to
have turned off listning to Pelican for a while, their last few releases really didn't quite hit me as much as
anything up to 'March Into The Sea' did. This one I figured would be a lot heavier.. I mean, it's Southern Lord... almost the dictionary definition of Heavy. Well... unfortunatly it isn't heavy enough to really match in, not quite anyway. That's not to say this isnt a good one. Pelican are always good right? But it is kind of exactly what you would expect from this instrumental powerhouse, even with the occasional addition of Stephen O Malley or Aaron Turner. And it's all very nice, but it just isnt heavy enough... Shame really as there are some killer riffs to be found here and its great.. but.. not bloody heavy enough. Bah, see I'm rambling now, this is what always happens when I do half a review, decide to stop and carry on a little later. Oh well, Pelican are and always will be Pelican... it just feels a little deflated at times for me this one but it's certainly not too bad at all thats for sure.
