More supergroup action, this time in the guise of Dale Crover, Wino, Al Cisneros and Scott Kelly... in other words, this one is five slabs of doomy-riffy-loud-metalytastic sweet sweet joy. Yum. And it sounds almost exactly how you would expect, which is certainly a good thing. Opener Solar Benediction pounds along wuth some awesome guitar work that is unmistakably Wino's doing. Unusually it all breaks down just over half way and ends up sounding a lot more progressive and broody like ISIS than anything else that these four normally would put out.

And thats the thing, this doesnt sound quite like any single person in the band, nor a full on amalgamation of styles. Shrinebuilder has its own sound that seems to throb away an a vast sludgy mass of feedback and psych infested darkness. Stoner music this is, but not in the way Om or Melvins do it, there is more to it than these two groups. The minimalism of Om is very much missing (although Al Cisneros monotonous vocals do have their highly distinctive sound), as is the occasional silly mess of the Melvins at their best, which is mighty fine by me. Great stuff for the fast approching dark Winter nights.
